Mark Benner, AIA founded Mark Eric Benner — Architects, Ltd. to provide creative and high-quality architectural design services to a broad variety of clients. With the belief that successful architecture is a combination of innovative design concepts and exceptional communication of those concepts we have developed state of the art processes which embrace cutting edge technology to leverage the process and provide the best possible value for our clients.
The foundation of Mark’s experience was developed during his tenure as principal and architect with Orren Pickell Designers and Builders, a custom, luxury, residential design/build firm, operating in the Northern suburbs of Chicago. Joining the firm in 1995, Mark was responsible for the implementation and development of the company’s CAD initiative as well as the production of nearly four hundred homes with a total construction value of more than $275 million. Projects were primarily located in and around Chicago’s Northshore communities but also extended to other markets, including New Jersey, Wisconsin, Michigan, California, and Colorado. Projects were primarily residential, but also included commercial projects, large-scale developments, and land planning. Through the production of highly coordinated designs partnered with detailed and animated visualization of these projects, our award-winning work was recognized by leaders throughout the industry.
As a very early adopter of advanced design and communication techniques, Mark was successful in pioneering these with Schonsheck, Inc. of Wixom, Michigan. Schonsheck, Inc. is a commercial design/build firm with projects that include industrial, warehouse, retail, restaurant, office, and religious institutions. Projects ranged in size from 20,000 sf to more than 200,000 sf It was here where he first began to explore project design integrated with estimating and scheduling to provide a comprehensive understanding of a projects entire profile.
With a strong belief that no project is too small to benefit from good design, Mark has contributed to a number of community building efforts to help those affected by economic and natural disasters. A proud member of Solid Rock Carpenters, a Habitat for Humanity affiliate, Mark has contributed both to the design and construction of communities, homes, shelters, and furniture throughout Chicago and extending as far as New Orleans. By developing designs which could be constructed modularly by volunteers in Illinois he leads a team to build more than twenty homes near New Orleans.
Mark’s awards and recognition range from judging for the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago to being a team recipient of numerous Chicago Home Builder’s Association, Association of Licensed Architects, and trade awards. Mark is a graduate of the School of Architecture at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan. He and his wife reside in Northbrook, Illinois.
